Welcome to the Bryan Community! Lincoln's first and foremost focus school. Our school provides an alternative education to youth sixteen through twenty-one years of age by emphasizing community, personal character and critical thinking skills. Students attending Bryan meet the same local and state learning standards as other teens in the Lincoln Public Schools. Our school works hard to meet the needs of individual students. While our curriculum is no longer delivered in learning packets, students at Bryan still benefit from personalized instruction and smaller classroom settings. The curricula is personally relevant and engages students in real-world problems using a critical thinking skills model.
The Bryan Community focuses on creating a positive learning environment where each student is valued and learns new ways to be successful. Bryan teachers care about students and care about their learning. Special efforts are made to connect with students and build relationships that are meaningful and inclusive. Bryan is called a community because students and staff work together toward common goals. Our staff believes that students become active members of the school community by contributing positively and working cooperatively with others.
Our staff teaches students how to learn and think. We believe subject matter divisions are often arbitrary and that understanding a situation fully requires a synethesis of knowledge and insight across several disciplines. One of the ways we make this happen is by integrating math, reading and writing across the curricula. Students find that in our classrooms teachers connect to these disciplines because integration makes sense in how we learn making discussions more holistic and focused at the same time. Our classrooms are structured to help students find personal solutions through reflective experiences and asking questions that engage them. When a class lesson raises important questions, there is for students important learnings.
