Mara Zigurs, Social Worker

"My name is Mara Zigurs and I have been the School Social Worker at Bryan Community for 8 years. I graduated from UNO with an MSW in 1981 and have worked in the social work field since then. My primary focus has been in the field of child and adolescent mental health services. I enjoy working with Bryan students because they have so much wisdom about life and are ready to focus on things that matter. On a personal note, I have a spouse who is an Economics professor and two children ages 10 and 17. I am a caterer and party planner on the side and greatly enjoy feeding people. My parents were refugees from Latvia post WWII and I speak the Latvian language. I visited Latvia this summer and discovered I had 71 relatives still remaining there. I recently inherited a piece of land in Latvia that once belonged to my mother. My work here at Bryan is to be a support to students and their families through individual and group counseling, as well as assisting students in making connections with community resources. I look forward to working in an environment where we see students with great potential accomplish their dreams." Email Mara mzigurs@lps.org
