PRE-ACT 11/7/17 (10th and 11th Grade test / No school for 9th and 12th)

PreACT for students in 10th and 11th- Tuesday, 11/7/17

*No School for students in 9th and 12th

8:30-9:00am Breakfast /// 9:00am Pre-Work and ACT /// 12:30pm Approximate Dismissal Time

***All students need to be in their testing room at 9am!

On November 7, the PreACT assessment will be administered to all Lincoln Public Schools students who are in 10th and 11th grades.  The PreACT will give students an opportunity to take a practice version of the ACT that all students will take in April of their 11th grade year.

The ACT is a college-entrance exam and is required by the Nebraska Department of Education as part of the assessment of student progress.  The PreACT is identical to the ACT in terms of both overall format, types of items and the 1-36 score range.  Research from ACT indicates that when students take the ACT assessment more than once, 57 percent achieve a higher composite score.  Since the PreACT is identical to the ACT, taking the PreACT could potentially lead to better scores for students on the ACT.

The results of the PreACT offer several benefits to our students, including:

  • Preparing for the ACT in April of their 11th grade year
  • Using the results to choose the right classes for the remainder of high school
  • Exploring possible career pathways for life after high school
  • Maximizing their opportunities for college and scholarships

There are several things we ask parents to do that can positively contribute to their child’s success. First, encourage your child to put forth their best effort with positive statements, expressing confidence in their abilities and efforts.  Next, make sure they get a good night’s sleep and a nutritious breakfast – those will go far to help your child do their best job possible. Finally, attendance during testing is very important. Please reschedule any appointments that may take your child out of school on the testing dates.

Our goal is to help our students prepare and succeed as they take this important test. Your partnership is valuable in this effort, and as always, we appreciate your support.  Please watch for additional information regarding the PreACT and ACT, and if you have questions, please contact your child’s school and speak to their school counselor or an administrator.  Information can also be found in the Parent Center of the LPS website.
